Timeline – Workers and Students Spending Habits in Singapore

I started thinking about how I spent money after starting coming to Singapore and thought it would apply for most of the workers and students. It was quite amazing, when I think about how the spending habits changes over time. In the first 3 months at work/school, I was spending $150 per month including (not including –rent), groceries,.. but over period of 3 years, I could see dramatic change. Having NETS card in hand changes perspective on money in negative way. Here’s the time line on how spending habits change over time in Singapore.
Two Months in Singapore
Mind calculator will be always at work. Any time you see some product will be multiplied by Kyats 850.( Myanmar) Yes, it was Kyats 850 per S$ when I came to Singapore. First week, I went to Fair Price and total bill was around $25 for 2 weeks of groceries. Second time I went my friends and it was around $60 and I used to wonder, Kyats 51,000 would we get so many stuff that would be useful for more than a month. If you don’t have a part-time job, financial aid or scholarship, then for first few months you will hold yourself back from spending. So, average monthly spending for first 2-3 months will be at very minimum.
After 4-5 months
You will have NETS card or a student credit card with some S$2000 credit limit and slowly the mindset will get adapted to Singapore Dollar value. We won’t feel the pain of paying the credit card until statement comes. Till then anything we buy is free, because the money virtual. We don’t get to see the money. It’s in bank account, we pay using NETS card, and when statement comes, money from bank account is transferred.NETS cards will be used in all places, many small purchases charged to the card will add up to big sum. Usually, it’s $8 at McDonalds, $10 at Taco Bell, $10 for movie kind of things will add to huge amount. You will be surprised to see how you had spent when the statement comes. You will wonder, if I have an extra small part time job for 10 hours in a week that would give me some S$400 - S$600 to pay my groceries and part of living expenses. That’s the phase, when every worker/student will feel the value of money. Exhausting the bank balance money (student loan, parents, income, ..)
After 6 months
Now, you should be in a permanent job (part time, or financial aid, research assistantship). Unless you control yourself with the excitement of getting a new job, your first pay check will be already spent before you realize.
Its very simple, for many months, you will be living within budget, controlling your spending. After, you get a job; first thing will be happy relaxed feeling. You will put some mental calculation, on ho much you will earn per week, per month, for 6 months. All long awaited dreams of having a nice digital camera, at least weekly once meal at Peninsular Plaza Restaurant, Ipod, … will come into mental picture. Next thing you know would beBuy cool Cell Phone (now a days, its becoming essential)
§ Ipod and Iphone
§ Dine out in restaurant now and then daily
§ Visit websites and edealinfo daily looking for new gadgets
§ New pair of shoes every month
§ Subscription to Starhub
§ Buy nice clothes
§ Flat Screen LCD TV sharing the cost with roommates
§ List never ends
So, that would be your first pay check money already spent. Most of the workers/students end up spending with their credit cards and left with additional 5,000 debt in credit card. Now having used to little lavish life style, it will be little difficult to go back to other life style. Next step would be to apply for new credit card, and what would happen at the end? Big balance in the credit cards, lots of balance transfers will go on…
So protect yourself from the lures of temptation, my dear readers.

Mississippi Cruise Options For Lovers Of Themed Travel

By Anthony Herbert

The river cruise has become a very trendy kind of vacation today, and especially so on the Mississippi. Whether it is just for a short few hours, for a week or even a month, a boat cruise can be a very exhilarating as well as tranquil holiday.

There are many different alternatives to bear in mind when organizing a Mississippi river cruise. Mostly, these pertain the amount of time that you want to spend on the river, on whether you intend to travel alone or with other people, be it friends, family or possibly even business associates, and the kind of cruise that you want to undertake.

As you may well know the Mississippi river is over two thousand miles long and is navigable for most of its course by cruise ships, so there are very different trips that can be made, from the swampy delta of Louisiana to the wooded landscape of Minnesota.

There are different types of vessels that you can take on a Mississippi river cruise, from luxuriously refurbished steamboats of old to newer self-catering houseboats and small modern motor yachts.

If you choose a steamboat, you will not be spoilt for choice as many of the bigger Mississippi river cruise boats have saloons, gambling malls, restaurants, spas and so forth. And of course, there are plenty of onshore activities to choose from, from sightseeing to golfing.

Many of the bigger boats include a lot of activities and events on the Mississippi river cruise, which can make the trip very suitable for young adults. But there are activities for families and more mature people as well. From bird-watching to gourmet dinners and dance evenings on the river, there are options for everyone's tastes.

Many Mississippi river cruises follow a distinct theme throughout the trip, and both the on-shore sightseeing and the on-board entertainment are geared towards the themes. Whether you are a naturalist, a civil war buff, a jazz lover, a nostalgic for the days of steamboats and railroads, or an architecture fan, you will be able to find the cruise that interests you.

If you take a longer trip, you will be able to fully immerse yourself into the atmosphere of Mississippi river cruises and will travel one way between two different destinations. Shorter trips will be round trips, but they will be just a engrossing.

Mississippi river cruises are also for all budgets. You can get a no-frills transport and eat cheaply onshore, or even hire your own small boat. But if you are so inclined, you can also travel on the more luxurious boats and enjoy a very lavish holiday.

So what are you waiting for? Use the available resources on the Internet to further research Mississippi river cruises, and then book the trip that suits you best at one of the many specialized travel agencies. You will love the experience!

Elephant Polo: The Sport of Kings

By Christopher Linch

One thing I must do before I kick the proverbial "bucket" is to see an Elephant Polo game. Elephant Polo, as you might guess, is a variant of polo played aboard an elephant. The home of the game is Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge, Nepal, but can also be found in Thailand, Sri Lanka, India and England. New York has a team: the Blues. Treetops is the home of the World Elephant Polo Championships. The 2008 Champions were England's "Air Tuskers".

Basic polo equipment is used, although the mallet is modified to reach from the back of the elephant to the ground, some six to nine feet. The field or "pitch" is shorter than a standard polo field (the reasons for this will be discussed in a moment). Due to the difficulty in steering perhaps, each elephant has two riders. The first is the "mahout". Familiar to us from Rudyard Kipling novels, this is the guy who rides on the elephant's head and encourages both movement and direction. The second rider actually plays the game by whacking the ball and calling out directions to the mahout.

The game was apparently a favorite of the British Colonial period in India, and reemerged after a heavy evening of drinking by the owner of Tiger Tops and his cronies. Some celebrity adherents of the game include Ringo Starr, Bryan Ferry of Roxie Music, the actor Steven Seagal, and the late adventurer Sir Edmund Hillary.

The World Elephant Polo Association governs the play in Nepal and Thailand. The WEPA strictly enforces rules regarding elephant welfare and game play. Other tournaments are managed independently. Most games are played today for charity. Aside from winning the game, other prizes include Best Dressed Team. Any excuse for champagne will do.

The game is played under the auspices of the World Elephant Polo Association (and yes, you can get a polo shirt!) which governs the play in Nepal and Thailand. The rules regarding elephant welfare are strictly enforced. Tournaments are not lengthy, and generally are played for charity once a year. Other prizes eagerly anticipated include the coveted Best Dressed Team Award.

Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge is an award winning wildlife safari and eco lodge in the heart of Chitwan National park. The Lodge is noted for it's eco-tourism model, it's conservation activism, it's organic cuisine and it's tree house accommodations. The lodge offers elephant safaris to view Bengal Tigers, Bison and Rhinoceros,.

The championships are usually scheduled at the end of November and beginning of December.

Luxury Safaris; A Once In A Lifetime Holiday

By Paul Reynolds

Have you ever considered what luxury safaris really entail? Have you ever really sat down and thought about what you could experience by taking authentic luxury Tanzania safaris? Here is a hint: the key part of those sentences is the "luxury" part. Most of us do not think of anything luxurious when we think about safaris. If we do, we probably think that it would be too expensive to even seriously consider. However, you might want to reconsider those ideas.

Going on a safari in Africa is truly a once in a life time opportunity. It is one of those holidays about which many of us can only dream because we think it is so far out of our reach or our budget. However, going on a luxury safari is becoming a reality for a lot of people these days. Contrary to what you might be thinking about safaris in general, it is entirely possible to enjoy a luxury one. You do not have to rough it; you will not be left in the wilds of Africa with just a tent to protect you.

The idea of a luxury holiday means a lot to a great many people. On a luxury safari, however, that is just part of the appeal. Imagine all of the things you will be able to see on safari. The opportunity to see exquisite, intriguing wild animals in their natural habitats does not come around that often. When you consider how breathtakingly beautiful those habitats are, you will see even more appeal.

It is easier than ever to go on a luxurious safari. This is due to the increasing number of travel companies offering safari services. You do not have to worry about roughing it with these companies either. They know how to cater to travelers who want a little luxury. However, everything is still completely authentic.

These companies know how to give their clients a memorable experience. That is what they are there to do. It does not matter how high your expectations are. The company you choose will do its very best to exceed them. One of the ways they do this is by employing locals to give you an authentic experience on your safari.

You will be able to take your safari in any number of ways. Can you imagine, for instance, touring the Tanzanian countryside on the back of a horse? You will be able to see things you would never notice if you were in a car or a jeep. A lot of companies also offer relaxing boating safaris, where you float gently down rivers and enjoy the scenery. These two options are also better for the animals you see. They will not be scared by the noises of a car.

Do not worry if you are not a skilled equestrian. It is not necessary. Your guides will be there to help you with that. All you have to do is enjoy your amazing vantage point. This will also provide you with the opportunity to take lots of pictures and videos so you remember your trip. Furthermore, your safety is always insured.

To put it quite simply, taking a luxurious African safari can really be illuminating. It will open your eyes to new culture and a new way of life. It will definitely be something to remember for the rest of your life.

Travel - Miami International Airport

By Marco Baumann

Are you a Florida resident? If you are and you are looking to travel out of the country, you will need to find a Florida airport that is known as an international airport. International airports are airports that regularly have flights arriving from or going to an area outside of the Untied States. For Florida residents, particularly those in or around the Miami area, the Miami International Airport is the airport that they turn to when it comes to scheduling an out of the country trip.

Unlike most other airports, including other international airports, the Miami International Airport does business with over fifty airlines. That number of huge, especially when compared to other airports. Essentially, this means that wherever you are going and whenever you need to get there, the Miami International Airport should have what you are looking for.

Since there are over fifty airlines that partner with the Miami International Airport, you will find that their airport is large in size. This may pose a problem for you, especially if you have never visited the airport before. If this is the case, you will want to familiarize yourself with the airport?s layout or even print off a map. You can do this by visiting the online website of the Miami International Airport. These maps should also provide you with valuable information on airport parking arrangements.

With the recent focus on airfield security, you will find that the staff at the Miami International Airport requests that you arrive for your flight well in advance. This is especially important for international travelers or travelers who are unfamiliar with the airport. A simple wrong turn or a delay at an airfield security checkpoint could cause you to miss your flight, especially if you did not arrive at least two hours before your flight was scheduled to take off. Also, before arriving at the airport, it is important to make sure that you have all of the documents needed to travel on an international flight. These documents commonly include picture identification, a passport, or a visa.

The airport is stocked full of retail stores, including clothing stores and gift shops. You can also find a large number of bars, restaurants, as well as other establishments. Due to the size of the airport, you will find that certain retail establishments are only available in certain airport terminal areas. However, all airport terminals have a number of different eateries and retail stores for you to choose form.

Whether you are looking to check the status of your flight, learn more about airport security procedures, or learn more about international flights, you should be able to find what you are looking for on their online website. For additional information, you may want to consider contacting the airport directly.

Goa - Land of Beaches

By Ava Mason

Goa is known as the land of beaches but this small sun-kissed, west Indian state has much more to offer visitors.

Most roads in Goa are little more than a tarmac indication of the direction you can travel. They snake along the countryside with nothing more than an arbitrary nod towards modern engineering and road construction. Around blind corners, cows - exploiting their sacred status - wander across the road regardless of traffic, earning them the nickname from locals of "Goan Traffic Police". In its own way the road system works - allowing day-to-day work and travel with minimum fuss and maximum noise.

There is nowhere on earth quite as intriguing as India and few places on the sub-continent offer such an eclectic mix of colour and atmosphere as Goa. Perched on the west coast of India, with long sandy beaches down to the Arabian Sea, Goa has become India's land of plenty. Migrant workers seeking employment, Nepalese and Kashmiris selling ethnic goods to tourists and wealthier Indians buying second homes boost its population to nearly one and a half million.

A Taste of Portugal... Until 1961 Goa was a Portuguese colony. Travel to its towns and you'll find faded reminders of its past with once mighty churches and faded Portuguese facades lining the streets.

Everything is catered for in Goa but its main attractions are its bars and beaches. Elsewhere you can enjoy the daily ritual of Goan life. At nightfall dance with the Goans " their love of music is legendary and they are known to have a song and dance for every occasion.

Relax, take part and enjoy the experience... If beaches and bars are your holiday then head for Tito's bar in Baga, north Goa - the biggest and probably still the best. Futher north, Arambol and the paradise beach of Qurin offer tranquillity. In the south, Palolem offers a picture postcard beach and an unforgettable experience of real Goan village life. At Palolem the sun sets into the Arabian Sea with the fiery red vengeance that probably launched a thousand superstitions.

A sunset to remember... Sunset on a Goan beach is greeted with a noise and an atmosphere. Villagers set up food stalls, sarong sellers offer silks and cottons, and children offer flower necklaces.

A unique place still off the beaten track - Goa entices the visitor looking for a holiday with an ever intriguing mix of beach and culture.

Exchanging Currencies for Travel Abroad

By Graham Winborne

When traveling to foreign countries, travelers need to think about how and when they will convert their currency. Luckily, there are many options for travelers to choose from when it comes time to make the exchange. There are two major factors to look at when exchanging currency: the exchange rate and the amount of commission charged.

Travelers are often fooled into exchanging for the lowest rate, while being charged a high rate of commission on their transaction. The strength of the US dollar is an important concern when planning to pay for a trip. When the dollar is losing strength, it is best not carry the dollar. Also, if the dollar is losing strength, try to pay for expenses such as airfare and hotels in advance. This way, the large expenses are paid for when the dollar is at its potentially highest point, therefore benefiting you the most in terms of expense. Find out what the current exchange rate is at www.gocurrency.com.

Exchanging Currencies While Still in the States

While still in the states, travelers can exchange their currency at the local bank. Although this may seem to be a convenient way to prepare for your vacation, the costs associated with exchanging in this way can be large. Also, there are several online venues which allow you to pay American funds, and the currency you desire is then sent to your home. These sites generally offer decent exchange rates but charge fees and delivery charges. With these services, there is also the risk that the company is fraudulent or that the currency could be stolen while in transit. Exchanging a currency through this online medium may seem convenient, but be sure to weigh the risks involved.

Exchanging at Hotels and Airports

Your best bet is to exchange currency once you get to the country you'll be staying in. Your hotel may offer an exchange service, and once again, this may seem like a convenient alternative, but watch out. Hotels may charge fees of 20% or more to exchange currency, so try to stay away from hotel exchanges unless it is an emergency. Use one of the three free currency converters to find out how much extra your hotel is willing to charge you. Airports also offer an exchange, but as with hotel exchanges, airports tend to make a good deal of money off of the exchange.

Credit Cards

Many people travel abroad planning to put the majority of the charges on their credit card. Although credit cards generally offer the best exchange rates, you must be careful about using credit cards when the strength of the dollar is falling. Credit card transactions are not immediate, so when the dollar is falling you could end up with a less favorable exchange rate due to the time it takes for transactions to post. We recommend Canadian Credit Cards and Canadian Balance transfer credit cards with Travel Rewards Capabilities.

Don't Want to Carry Large Amounts of Cash?

If you don't feel like carrying cash all the time, ATM's are a convenient way to get foreign currencies. ATM's generally offer a good exchange rate, and are located in many places. One thing to consider before deciding to use an ATM to get cash is what fee your bank charges for withdrawing money abroad. These fees will add up, especially if you plan on using an ATM many different times throughout your trip.

Another alternative to cash is to bring travelers checks with you. Travelers checks can be replaced if they are lost or stolen, and can be used at exchanges to get the currency of the country you are in.

Banks

Another logical place to look to exchange currency is at banks. The exchange rate at banks is usually pretty good, although a bank has two alternatives as to what rate to provide. In some banks, the exchange rate depends on the supply and demand of the currency, and with this system, you end up with an exchange rate fairly close to the ones being offered in major exchanges. The second option is that the government of the country you are traveling sets the exchange rate, and all exchanges must stick to that rate. In either case, banks do offer a convenient way to exchange currency without incurring a large amount of costs.

No matter what way you plan on exchanging your money, be sure to bring along a list of current exchange rates. These rates can be found online or in many major newspapers. With this information in hand, you can judge where the best rates are being offered.

2. Koh Phangan - if you want to party

If you do arrive a other week than the full moon party week however, Koh Phangan is a nice relaxed island with nice beaches and accommodation for every budget. RC Helicopters With Coaxial Rotors Are The Best For Beginners

By Ron Stephens

Radio Controlled helicopters were once out of reach for most rc hobbiest in terms of cost and the skill required to fly them. But coaxial helicopters have changed all that.

They are infinitely more stable than their traditional counterparts, allowing just about anyone to partake in this great hobby.

Helicopters Want To Spin Out Of Control

The problem with conventional helicopters is that the single rotor creates torque that wants to spin the helicopter in the opposite direction. To counter this torque, a tail rotor spins to create an equal, but opposite amount of torque. Unfortunately, this balancing act of trying to maintain these equal, but opposite forces is difficult to master.

It is almost impossible to just learn this on your own without the help and training of an experienced instructor. Not to mention the many hours of practice.

A Level Playing Field

The good news is, the new standard for many radio controlled helicopters is to have coaxial or dual spinning rotors. This amazing design allows two rotors to automatically spin in opposite directions, eliminating the need for a tail rotor, and eliminating any unwanted spin of the helicopter. As such, coaxial helicopters are great for the first timer.

Little Or No Training Required

Flying a helicopter that has coaxial rotors is extremely easy and can be accomplished by most people with very little effort or practice. Just take it out of the box, charge up the battery and before you know it, you'll be flying with confidence and in control.

Its very easy now for anyone to get there first radio controlled helicopter and have loads of fun flying it without all the endless hours of training that you once had to have.

If you have been confused as to which RC helicopter to go with for your first purchase, you can't go wrong with a coaxial helicopter. Easy to fly, and very affordable, they are the best choice for any beginner.

Cheap Travel Packages Tips

By Dino Williams

Prices for flights and hotel bookings vary a lot from one period of the year to another, and in this incredibly fast moving world of traveling, getting the best tips brings maximum profit for businesses and great fun for holiday makers. Cheap travel packages are a necessity given the need to attract customers, and this competition is not limited to travel agencies, as it greatly influences the policies of hotels and touristic resorts too. The general rule says that the places that receive the highest popularity rates are also the most expensive.

If the plane tickets are not chosen carefully, they could cost a fortune even if you think you are negotiating for cheap travel packages. Those holidaymakers who'd rather go the direct way should know that airfares vary according to some "rules" the common user remains a stranger to. Hence, a direct route is much more expensive than alternate or combined flights. Before taking an international flight, you may be interested in checking whether you do not pay less by getting a domestic one in the same direction, first. Some agencies take into consideration such elements when creating cheap travel packages, but others take the directest flight to the destination as a standard criterion.

Another way to be sure that the cheap travel packages are what they claim all the way is never to overlook important details like the travel food. Many restaurants in different parts of the world still take advantage of tourists without peoples realizing it, therefore, it is time people paid more attention to local food they could have during outings for instance. This does not mean that you need to spend any time in the kitchen while on vacation, but you should make some research before getting to the destination and get some tips on good local establishments that focus on regional specialties. For local specialties, costs are a lot smaller and the food is absolutely great!

Another way of getting really cheap travel packages is flexibility. Let us say that you choose to travel to South America. If you request a holiday to Rio de Janeiro, you will most likely pay more than if you just expressed your wish of visiting Brazil. Some less known and little crowded resorts could offer you a lot more than a very popular but rather luxurious one. Nevertheless, it all depends on what you want to visit and what money you are ready to pay for it. Plenty of other info is abundant on the Internet and you can learn lots of other stuff to aid you make the best of your money and the time you spend on holiday.

The best way to get truly cheap travel packages is follow the link below. Good luck on your travel.

Tanzania Hidden Treasures- Its Seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites

By Karl Heinz

Mount Kilimanjaro National Park is located in Northern Tanzania, near Moshi town, 128 km (80 miles) away from Arusha and approximately one hour's drive from Kilimanjaro airport. Mount Kilimanjaro is known all over the world since it has the highest peak in the continent of Africa making it the tourist destination of choice since 1977. The formation of Mt. Kilimanjaro happened gradually over 1 million years ago due to volcanic activity along the Rift Valley. Three points - Shira, Kibo and Mawenzi came about 750,000 years ago. The highest point is Uhuru Peak on Kibo, which is one of the Seven Summits of the world. The Seven Summits are an exhaustive list of highest mountains on various continents.

Mountain climbing is the major motivation for visiting this park, and getting to the summit of this snow-capped mountain is a great achievement for mountain climbing enthusiasts the world over. The trek up the mountain takes a week or so to complete safely.

The second world heritage site on the list is the mysterious Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It is home to a large number of wild animals, who live in the big, expansive crater of Ngorongoro. Just close by we have other craters like Empakaai, which is filled by a deep lake, and the active volcano of Oldonyo Lenga. In this neighborhood is the Olduvai Gorge, which resulted in the discovery of one the Homo habilis. The Laitoli Site is also found in the vicinity. It catapulted into historical headlines as the main localities of early hominid footprints which were dated 3.6 million years.

Serengeti National Park borders Kenya's Masai Mara Game Park. Its far-reaching plains of endless grass, tinged with the twisted shadows of acacia trees, have made it the quintessential image of a wild and untarnished Africa. Its large stone kopjes are home to rich ecosystems, and the sheer magnitude and scale of life that the plains support is staggering. Large prides of lions laze easily in the long grasses, plentiful families of elephants feed on acacia bark and trump to each other across the plains, and giraffes, gazelles, monkeys, eland, and the whole range of African wildlife is in awe-inspiring numbers.

Serengeti National Park is renowned for the Great Wildebeest Migration when more than a million animals make the seasonal journey to fresh pasture to the north, then the south, after the biannual rains.

The fourth exciting world heritage site is the Konoa Rock Art Site. It is located on the eastern slopes of the Masai escarpment bordering the Great Rift Valley. Here natural rock shelters are found, overhanging slabs of sedimentary rocks fragmented by rift faults, whose vertical planes have been used for rock paintings for at least two centuries. The impressive collection of artistic images from over 150 shelters covering a whooping 2,336 km2, many with high artistic value, displays the progressive development the changing socio-economic base of the area from hunter-gatherer to agro-pastoralist, and the beliefs and ideas associated with the different societies. Some of the shelters are still considered to have ritual significance for the people who live nearby, effectively reflecting their beliefs, rituals and cosmological traditions.

Zanzibar was one of the most prominent Swahili trading towns in the Indian Ocean trade. The Zanzibar Stone Town is found in the cultural heart of Zanzibar. It has remained virtually unchanged over the last 200 years. The narrow streets and winding alleyways are lined with grand houses bespeak Arabic culture. According to UNESCO, Zanzibar had great role to play in the flourishing and suppression of slavery, it was one of the main slave-trading ports along the east African coast in East Africa and also later on was used as the headquarters from which its opponents such as David Livingstone conducted their anti slavery campaign.

Kilwa Kisiwani was in scripted as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1981. Kilwa Kisiwani is an archaeological site on an island off the Swahili coast of Tanzania, Kilwa Kisiwani was a huge trade center between about AD 1100-1853, primarily a benefit of its location wedged between the Arabian peninsula, the Far East and the Indian subcontinent.

The last site on this exclusive list is the world re known Selous Game Reserve, gem of the southern safari circuit. The Selous game reserve got its name from Fredrick Courtney Selous, an explorer doubling up as a naturalist. He first came to Africa as a result of the First World War. This is what was known as the scramble of Africa which resulted to the Germans ruling parts of today's Tanzania. The reserve is situated 500 km southwest of Dar es Salaam, the reserve is 55,000 sq km big- larger than the African country of Switzerland. It is the largest reserve in Africa.

The reserve attained the prestigious World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982 as a result of its varied and unique flora and fauna. This expansive stretch of wilderness has a myriad of habitats like savanna woodlands, swamps, open grasslands and forests.

Blue Mountains Australia

By Mike Williams

The Blue Mountains is a famous Australian mountainous range west of Sydney in Australia. Sydneys metro sprawl pushes up to the base of the famous mountain range at penrith and the hawkesbury areas.

The mountains officially start about 60 kilometres to the west of Sydney. The famous Blue Mountains National park starts near the western side of the Nepean River and all the way in the west to the trout laden Coxs River.

The plateaus and deep gorges descend to over 500 metres but also rise to snow capped points over 1,000 metres above sea level. The majority of the Blue Mountains National park is listed as a World Heritage area which also includes seven national parks. They were listed in the 1970`s as conservation areas.

The rugged Mountainous area also includes the City of Hawkesbury, City of Blue Mountains, and the small City of Oberon and remote western city of Lithgow which to this day is hostile country outside the city.

It is well known that there were thousands of years of habitation before white settlers moved into the area. They have left us their art as a reminder of their presence. The well known hand stencil art is in Red Hands Cave at.We have also found axe sharpening areas.

The local koori`s mainly used two different routes to move round the rugged hills and valleys. The trails were on the bilpin ridge and the other was near the present day Cox`s river. The river paths were easier and lead onwards to the farms of the kanimbla valley.

Early settlers believed the rugged mountains were not passable due to the rugged terrain as well as the dense foliage they encountered. The governor at the time encouraged the population to think the mountains could not be passed to discourage escape attempts. This mindset worked for several years.

A released former convict, John p Wilson, is now believed by many historians to have actually been the first white man to have managed to crossed the Blue Mountains. He also lived with local koori`s and came back in 1797.He is the forgotten man in Australian history books.

Wilsons descriptions of the areas were later proven to be fairly accurate but he may not have been recognised as the first one due to the authorities of the time seeking to confuse convicts on the possible escape routes they could use.He was killed by aboriginals after abducting one of their women.

The Unique Charm of Bangkok

By Chris Linch

Thailand has historically remained an independent kingdom (Siam) and has never been conquered by another people. As a result, the country has managed to keep its culture strong and uniquely its own. A wonderful place to experience the unusual charm of Thailand is in the capital city of Bangkok. A fascinating mix of the old and new, Bangkok offers the best that modern life has to offer without sacrificing its rich historical heritage. A large city of approximately 10 million people, Bangkok is the heart of the country spiritually, economically, and culturally.

Bangkok offers a rich variety of experiences. There are 400 Buddhist temples alone. The city boasts world-class shopping, dining and theatre. A particularly charming way to explore the city is by canal boat on the Chao Phraya River. A fascinating glimpse into traditional life is on view along the canalsa monk begging alms, a farmer delivering his vegetables by boat, a child on his way to school.

If possible, time your visit to take advantage of one of the colorful festivals that Bangkok celebrates:

1)Bangkok Songkran: The Thai New Year is celebrated with parades, music troupes and boat racing.

2)Chinese New Year Festival celebrates the best in Chinese culture. Enjoy Chinese Lion and Dragon dances, special recipes, traditional costumes, and music.

3)Loi Krathong; One of the most beautiful festivals, this is the "festival of the lights". At night, celebrants gather waterside to float lotus-shaped boats decorated with flowers and lit candles, as a thanksgiving and worship of the Goddess of Water.

Other things to do and see in Bangkok include: a trip to the Royal Grand Palace, or the floating market on the River Kwai. See the reclining Buddha at Wat Yai Chai. Take a Thai cooking class. Enjoy traditional Thai dancing, or a kickboxing demonstration. Relax and indulge your senses at one of the famous Thai spas. Shop at open air markets, or an upscale Mall.

With so much to see and do, Bangkok will charm and delight the most discriminating traveler.

No Ugly Americans! A Few Tips for Visiting Thailand

By Christopher Linch

The Thai people are famous for their gentle and welcoming nature. However, a few cultural reminders will keep you from giving offense while visiting that beautiful country.

One of the most important things a visitor to Thailand should remember is to dress conservatively, particularly at a religious shrine. Basically this means to cover up. No sleeveless tops, no shorts, and definitely nothing midriff-baring. It also means to dress neatly. This is a temple, not a rave. Treat it as you would your own house of worship. Remember to remove your shoes when entering the main enclave where the statue of Buddha is kept.

Every Buddha image, large or small, ruined or not, is regarded as a sacred object. Never climb onto one to take a photograph or do anything which might indicate a lack of respect. Buddhist monks are forbidden to touch or be touched by a woman, or to accept anything from the hand of one. If a woman has to give anything to a monk, she first hands it to a man, who then presents it.

Avoid commenting on the Royal Family. The Thais are protective and loyal to the ruling family, and treat them with deep respect. They are not a subject for levity in the way our politicians are.

Be a good sport. The Thais are a gentle, humorous people, and deal with every day problems with a smile. If your waitress forgets your coffee, she may laugh at her mistake. Sometimes westerns see this as laughing at them personally and react badly. This is not the case. Relax and be gracious. Courtesy under fire is very important to the Thais.

The Thais use a courtesy form of address: "Khun". Don't be surprised if someone calls you "Khun John", or simply "Khun". It is also very common for a Thai to use your first name at a first meeting.

Thais considered eye to eye contact impolite, and while generally not look directly into your eyes while speaking to you.

Don't touch a Thai on the head. And don't point your feet at anyone. It's considered very rude. Remove your shoes when entering a private home or temple.

Instead of a hand shake, you may be greeted with a "Wai". Return the gesture. A Wai is made by pressing your palms together as if you were going to pray. It is a graceful and courteous exchange of greetings.

The Top Ten Travel Destinations For You

By Dino Williams

Naming top ten travel destinations could prove easy, but how relevant such a list is, that is debatable. This article includes only the most popular locations based starting from the statistics made thanks to international travel agencies and according to travelers reviews posted on a number of web pages.

To many tourists, Latin America is the perfect place to go on holiday: there is the beauty of cities like Rio de Janeiro and the mystical attraction of Peru and the ancient Maya and Inca cultural remnants. The cultural impact, the the entertainment diversity combined with some great weather conditions, make this part of the world become the holiday destination of millions of tourists from all over the world.

Western Europe with the charm of the Romantic setting of Paris, the historic attraction of Rome and Venice, the fascination of Spain's former Arab cities and the mystical lands of Scotland and Ireland can be included in the list of top ten travel destinations any time of the year. Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza require a special mention here, as they are some of the most exotic resorts in the European part of the world.

The Egyptian Pyramids and Morocco mark any foreigner who visits them, and travel agencies sell thousands of touristic packages for holidays on to the North of Africa. One of the features of African resorts consists in the constant touristic push and a magic harmony in the mixture of cultures that mingle so thoroughly in the crowded North-African cities. No matter if you visit retreats in oases or famous resorts, this part of Africa will always rank among the top ten travel destinations.

Moving further on to the distant countries of the Far East it is impossible not to notice the fascination with Nepal and the ancient Buddhist temples on the roof of the world. It is the Nepalese capital city, Kathmandu, with millennia of history that embraces most of the tourist crowds. As for the climbing of the Everest, very few courageous people dare to venture on the crests of Himalaya.

Finally, an impressive number of sunny islands can be included in a top ten travel destinations list: Bali, Jamaica, Crete, Hawaii and many others, which is why the list proves virtually limitless, as so are the beauties man and God created. It goes without saying that the places closest to a person's heart remain the ones to attract him/her for further exploration, and therefore, anyone can come up with a list of top ten travel destinations.

African Safari Experience : Wildlife Safaris in Kenya

By Andrew Muigai

The enchanting wilderness and big game of Kenya has always attracted explorers from all corners of the world. Kenya gives wildlife adventure seekers the chance to experience an incredible range of landscapes, unique natural features and species as well as an endless array of ecosystems.

With 27 national parks and 33 national reserves hosting over 4 million animals, Kenya is a paradise for the wildlife enthusiast. From the internationally acclaimed Masai Mara Wildebeest Migration to East and Central Africas greatest concentration of flamingos wading in Lake Nakuru, Kenya offers some of the best wildlife safari adventures in the world.

Every year, thousands of visitors from around the world flock into the Masai Mara to witness the great wildebeest migration. The migration takes place between July and October, with about 2 million wildebeest, and hundreds of thousands of zebras and Thompson gazelles crossing from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania into the Mara. The migration pattern is dictated by the availability of water and pasture in the two game reserves, due to the different rainfall patterns. The large ungulates start their northward journey at the end of May, the onset of the dry season in the Serengeti.

With or without the great migration, the Mara is a fascinating wildlife watching destination throughout the year. Many people nevertheless like taking a Masai Mara safari at the time of the wildebeest migration. However, timing the migration is a tricky matter because the migration schedule is dictated by the rains.

Placed in Kenya's southwest, the Mara is approximately 300km from Nairobi and is operated and managed by the local Maasai community. Traveling to the Mara will take you about 45 minutes by flight from Nairobi and 5 hours by road. You can find scheduled flights to Masai Mara at either Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or Wilson airport in Nairobi. You can also charter a place at Wilson airport. Many tour operators in Kenya offer organized safari packages to the Mara.

A popular and convenient wildlife safari destination for visitors who do not want to travel much across the country is the Nairobi National park. The park is situated about 7km from Nairobi city center, making it the only game reserve in the world located in a major city. Nairobi national park was established in 1945 and was the first national park in Kenya.

A great diversity of animal and bird species are present in the Nairobi national park. All the big five except the elephant are found here, alongside cheetahs, hyenas, crocodiles, hippos, antelopes, gazelles, warthogs, hyrax, wildebeests, and monkeys. There are also over 400 resident and migratory bird species including African hawks, martial eagles, ostriches, secretary bird, marabou storks, hornbill, and crowned cranes.

Also situated within the park are the Nairobi animal orphanage, the Nairobi safari walk, a spacious picnic site, and walking trails near hippo pools. In the animal orphanage, young, deserted, or injured animals are treated and taken care of, then released back to the wild when ready. In the park is also a rhino sanctuary, one of the few places in Kenya to spot black rhinos in their natural habitat.

Visitors frequent the park any time of the year, as there is a permanent population of game and carnivores. However, the best times are during the July/August period when large herds of wildebeest, eland and zebra migrate into the park, and during the dry season, when animals flock in the northern part of the park in search of water made available from the man-made dams.

Another wildlife destination is the Tsavo National Park situated 300 km Southeast of Nairobi. Tsavo is most renowned for the production and movie 'the man-eaters of tsavo'. It is the largest national park in Kenya and is divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West, the two being separated by the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. Tsavo west borders the Serengeti plains, and owing to its conducive altitude levels, hosts many animals. The Mzima springs is one of the major attractions in Tsavo, with its underwater observation point for observing crocodiles and hippos.

Tsavo animal population consists lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, buffaloes, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, hippos, and crocodiles among many more. There are a host of other smaller animals including dik dik, hyrax, and mongoose. You can travel to Tsavo both by road and by charter flight. Some operational airstrips in Tsavo include Kilaguri, Maxtar, Kamboyo, and Tsavo Gate.

Other popular wildlife safari destinations in Kenya include the Amboseli National Park, Aberdares National Park, Samburu Game Reserve, Lake Nakuru National Park and Mount Kenya National Park.

My Advice On Trips To The Tropics

By Rick Jenkenns

While winter is still gripping the northern most points of the United States, many of you are thinking about jetting off to the Caribbean for a quick escape. If that's the case for you, here are some simple tips to consider before making reservations.

Best Month To Travel

This is the most important of all considerations. You can probably get cheaper prices at certain times of the year, but you should wonder if it is the rainy season in the place you are going! You also might consider that even down in the tropics, it can get a little chilly in the evenings during the winter and this may spoil some of your fun. Check with your travel agent before booking and make sure the weather is going to fit in with what you want to get done.

Where and How Much

Assuming you have never been to the tropics, I will tell you that everywhere down there is paradise and beautiful. I always recommend newer travelers start with the popular, yet less expensive parts of the Caribbean first and work their way up. The best place to go first for the money is Cancun. You will get great service there and pay a lot less than some of the more exotic spots.

You may also look at emerging destinations like Punta Cana that are offering great prices as a way to bolster popularity. Once again, a travel agent is your best bet here, and you should consult several in order to get a clear representation.

Where You Stay And What You Get

As far as I am concerned, "all inclusive" resorts are where the best value is. An all inclusive plan will most importantly include all you can eat and all you can drink. This means no hassles and you can more easily stay within a budget. Just be sure to stay at one of the higher rated resorts where the food is usually better and the drinks of the premium sort!

Don't Drink The Water

This one sounds cliche, but I never recommend you drink the water in any foreign country. You don't want to take any chances on ruining your vacation because of stomach issues. Pretty much any place you go in the tropics will have plenty of bottled water available and you should drink that only!

Best of all, just have fun! Take your trip and forget about your laptop and cell phone. You will find that a trip to warmer latitudes will refresh and rejuvenate you months to come. And when that wears off, you can just go back again!

Travel Tips - Common International Air Travel Rules

By Marco Baumann

Everyday, in the United States, a large number of individuals, couples, and families travel by way of an airplane. Out of all of those travellers, a decent number of them are travelling overseas or to a foreign country. As international travel continues to increase in popularity, it is likely that the numbers will continue to rise. In fact, there is even a good chance that you may make the decision to travel to another country. If so, it is advised that you formularize yourself with the international air travel rules.

When it comes to international air travel rules, there are many travellers who automatically get confused. This is because not many people know that the rules for international air travel are different than the rules for domestic air travel. In reality, they aren't exactly the same, but they aren't that much different either. Despite the similarities, it is still advised that you place a focus on international air travel, especially since you will be travelling internationally.

As previously mentioned, you will find that a number of the air travel rules are similar between domestic and international travel. One of those rules is the airfield screening process. In all airports, even if they are not classified as an international airport, passengers will need to pass through the appropriate airfield security checkpoints. This screening process includes the close examination of your checked baggage. Unlike in the past, now almost all airlines thoroughly inspect checked baggage looking for explosive, flammable, or illegal items.

Since a vast series of general airports not customarily suggest general flights, though made during home flights as well, conscious passengers have been not regularly distant from made during home ones. Essentially, this equates to which a newcomer screening procedures, as good as a screening for all luggage will be a same. All flyers have been suggested to mislay any of their accessories, which might set of a steel detectors, as good as their shoes. Your boots will be sent by a cat-scan machine.

One of a couple of differences which we will see, in between made during home air transport as good as general air travel, has to do with a initial check-in. When we initial arrive during an airport, we will need to precede an airline opposite to register yourself. This is additionally where your checked luggage will be carefully thought about as good as processed for a trip. Upon made during home flights, passengers customarily need to supply a design id. This marker is customarily a supervision released marker label or a driver's license.

The proofs of marker which we will need will all rely upon an airfield in which we have been withdrawal from as good as an airfield which we will be nearing at. If we have been compulsory to uncover some-more than a design id, we might need to move your being born certificate, your passport, your visa, or your obligation of citizenship.

The above mentioned international air travel rules and procedures are just a few of the many that you may be required to follow. If and when you are unsure about a particular rule, it is advised that you seek professional assistance. That assistance should either come directly from an international airfield or an international airline.

My Beach: Manhattan

By James Gilbert Pynn

My name: Friday. My town: Los Angeles. My beat: the beach. The City of Angels has a sordid and luminous history, evoking the flickering light of thousands of fantasies in thousands of movie halls around the world lost to a dark-beating heart. Me, I like to get away from the pulse by stabbing the old gas-guzzler into drive and making haste for the sun-soaked beaches of Manhattan. Thats right, you heard me: Manhattan. The Big Apple doesnt have dibs on the name, you know, and youll be hard-pressed to find a stretch of beach as fine as this one.

Though technically the word Manhattan is Lenape Indian for "island of many hills" Manhattan Beach is not an island. No man or woman is an island and thats the special something about this beach. People want to get to know one another. They care, they look, they stare. Sometimes, they even say, Hey. Or Hi. Once someone even said, How are you? I was shocked " they were tourists and that was all right in my book.

The City of Angels can get you down, it can break lesser souls, but thats ok too. They just shuffle off to Buffalo and leave more room for the likes of you and me. More room at the beach and more room on the dance floor. Didnt think I could dance? Didnt think I was hip to the groove? The lingo? The jive? Well, baby, this Friday is taking it to he next level. Nothing compares to the LA nightlife " though I hear New York types complain about how the bars close at 2 AM. Were respectful types around here. No sense making a fuss until dawn. Thats what house parties are for. House parties in the Hollywood Hills.

Its no small feat to rationalize spending two grand a month on rent, but thems the breaks, kid. You toughen up after the first year. You realize the money is nothing " so what if your landlord is driving the latest German sports car. You like your Korean jalopy and you like the privilege of telling your lame-o friends in Des Moines that you live in Los Angeles. With the rent comes the perks, and nothing buys you cultural cred like saying you live in Los Angeles.

If a hotel is what you need, a hotel Los Angeles can give. She's housed generations of tourists before you graced this Island Earth, and she'll house all the generations to come. As long as Disneyland doesnt relocate to San Diego and the movie studios stay in LA county, this fine city and this gorgeous beach arent going anywhere. Get in your jalopy and get here. Book a plane, train, whatever. This city waits for no one and loves each and every one of you. I know. Im Friday.

The Top Ten Hotel Deals this Spring Break in Myrtle Beach

By Chris Linch

Nearly 2,000,000 students will be out on spring break March nine through thirteen. I have researched the top deals on these dates since most students will be out then. If you want to see other dates, I am sure the prices are similar, you will just have to go to a booking firm and check to be sure, or convince your school to change their spring break dates, whichever you choose.

You do have to understand that the rates mentioned here are estimates of what will actually be paid, and after reading this you may not be able to find them. That is because I published this today, and I have no way to update the rates. You can use this a guidance for your trip though.

The Polynesian Beach & Golf Resort is an ocean front condo property. Their average nightly rate is $31.00. 50% of guests who stay here recommend it.
